Four worlds, sixteen images, nothing staged.
Every one of these photographs was taken during our journeys, by us or by travellers. They say what you will find there better than any sales pitch.
World 1 / 4
Landscapes
From mangrove to dry plateau
Between the Gulf of Guinea and the northern hills, the landscape changes every hundred kilometres. Lagoons and black-water channels in the south, laterite and baobabs as you climb, and that low light that only arrives at either end of the day.
World 2 / 4
Craft
Hands that know
Wax cloth is cut with big shears, the charcoal iron weighs what it weighs, wood is still carved with a gouge. You do not watch these workshops through glass: you sit down, you try, you fail, and you leave with what you made.
World 3 / 4
People
The real reason to come
This is the part no programme can promise, and the part we nonetheless arrange. Tony knows the families, the village chiefs, the craftspeople. He introduces you; after that, the conversations are yours, not his.
World 4 / 4
Culture
Living memory, not a museum
The Ouidah memorials, the Amazons of Cotonou, murals painted straight onto the walls: here history is not filed behind glass, it is out in the street and still being argued about.
